Cybercafe User Ecommerce Activities



Introduction

Ecommerce in India is all set to cross the Rs 1180 crore mark for 2005-06 a near 100% increase from the previous financial year. India's i-population stands at 38.5 million and is all set to cross the 100 million by 2007-08. The nuances of the internet along with changing lifestyles and shopping habits coupled with superior options and selections have made this interactive medium most attractive to this e-generation. Whilst traditional access points like the office and the house continue to rise, community access points such as Cybercaf�s will continue to expand and will be host to a large segment of the i-populace.

This paper researches the shopping habits of the Cybercaf�s user that has embraced consumerism in its e-form and to highlight a realization that these Community Access points coupled with online and traditional marketing can be keen drivers in India�s e-volution.

A cybercaf� (aka an internet cafe) is a commercial venue where members of the public can access the net for a fee, usually per hour or minute.

There are thousands of internet caf�s of all shapes and sizes, all over India, from city centers to small villages to even remote mountains sides attracting not only the young and electronically savvy, but even to the less computer- literate testing the world of cyberspace. Cybercaf�s are located country-wide, although they tend to cluster in major population centers and locations such as airports, railways stations, universities & colleges and market areas. As per IMRB the cybercaf� market has grown at high rates, averaging a YoY growth of 45% over the last 5 years.

The number of Internet users will grow from the current 38.5 million to a 100 million users by 2007-08, and the cybercaf� is an essential point of access for Internet services as it becomes an integral part of our every day lives. No other business is playing such an instrumental role as cybercaf�s in the process of bringing the future of Internet technology to the public. The attached respondent base clearly shows what a crucial role "cybercaf�s" play in making Internet access available in prominent 'tier-II' cities and towns which are witnessing a pick-up in internet related activities & online retailing activity at increased transaction values. Are Indians buying online from cybercaf�s? This report confirms that cybercaf�s have fast evolved into a popular access point for ecommerce across India delivering an important contribution towards this year�s ecommerce estimate of Rs 1180 crores
