On average, Indians hold an estimated 5 jobs in their lifetime as compared to the western norm of 11. Since 2004-05 the number of Internet users seeking jobs online has increased by 71% from 3.8 million in 2004-05 to 6.5 million in 2005-06. The number of job seekers Online is further expected to cross 9.2 million this year (2006-07) with the estimated market size of the Indian online recruitment industry to reach Rs 241 crores for 2006-07 from the current Rs 145 crores in 2005-06 .The industry is also likely to maintain a year on year growth in excess of 60%.
To better understand the exact demographics of the online job seekers as well as parallel online activities they do online Internet & Mobile Association (IAMAI) of India mandated a study in collaboration with Cross tab Marketing Services in January 2006 with a base of 3269 respondents who seek jobs online.
