India's Internet population stands at 38.5 million and is all set to grow to a 100 million by 2007-08. As the Internet Population becomes more and more like the mainstream population the jobs people search are across multiple sectors and categories.

Internet is the most immediate, convenient and comprehensive resource for employment seekers to research for jobs and careers and the Online Job Sites apart from offering a huge data bank offer myriad of tools both for Job seekers and Employers.

Job Search is one of the top 5 key online activities that Indians do online [Email, Surfing, Chatting, Search and Job Search]. On average, Indians hold an estimated 5 jobs in their lifetime as compared to the western norm of 11. Since 2004-05 the number of Internet users seeking jobs online has increased by 71% from 3.8 million in 2004-05 to 6.5 million in 2005-06. The number of job seekers Online is further expected to cross 9.2 million this year (2006-07) with the estimated market size of the Indian online recruitment industry to reach Rs 241 crores for 2006-07 from the current Rs 145 crores in 2005-06 .The industry is also likely to maintain a year on year growth in excess of 60%.

To better understand the exact demographics of the online job seekers as well as parallel online activities they do online Internet & Mobile Association (IAMAI) of India mandated a study in collaboration with Cross tab Marketing Services in January 2006 with a base of 3269 respondents who seek jobs online.
